Choice loop

Decision Anxiety

Decision anxiety makes every choice feel like a test of the future. The goal is not a perfect decision. The goal is a good-enough choice with a reasonable review point.

1

Name The Stakes

Is this reversible, partly reversible, or truly hard to undo?

2

Limit Research

Set a time box so research does not become avoidance.

3

Choose Criteria

Pick three criteria before comparing options again.

4

Set A Review Point

Decide when you will review the choice instead of reopening it all day.

A Simple Decision Frame

  1. What problem am I actually trying to solve?
  2. What option meets the three most important criteria?
  3. What is the cost of waiting longer?
  4. What is one small way to test the choice?

When Overthinking Hides As Responsibility

Responsible thinking produces a decision or a plan. Anxiety thinking often produces more checking, more comparison, and more fear of regret. If the review is not changing the action, it may be a loop.
